This guide provides Lancer GMs with advanced builds (or “paradigms”) for the NPC classes presented in the full version of the Lancer Core Book. For each of the 30 mech NPC classes from that book, this guide presents two variant paradigms with differing specialties, revolving around two of the optional systems available within the class. Accompanying each paradigm is a short description of its usual tactics and the recommended sitreps where it operates at peak capacity. Tweak and test these builds to your heart’s content, and use them to create sitreps engaging for both yourself and your players!

This guide requires the paid version of the Lancer Core Book in order to create a full NPC statblock. It does not include any NPC statistics or features of its own, homebrew or otherwise.

In all, the primary objective of this guide is to present a wealth of straightforward, engaging-to-play prebuilt NPCs that a Lancer GM can instantly add to any sitrep.

@Valkyrion

Will you make an LCP of this? Im using Foundry VTT for my game. If you have these prebuilt copies an LCP, its would make it super easy for GMs to click and drag onto builds.

Thanks for reaching out! The short answer is “I cannot right now.”

The long answer is: LCPs only hold data for constructing NPCs; since this project uses the Lancer Core Book NPC LCP, it does not require an LCP of its own.

As for creating quick imports for COMP/CON: At the moment, COMP/CON does support NPC JSON imports and exports, but not in a way that obfuscates the actual data for the NPC. Basically, if I made a bunch of COMP/CON exports for these NPCs and put them in a download, it would be the near-equivalent of reproducing all the official paid NPC data into my own project (which is no good from a legal perspective). If COMP/CON updates in the future to include less information on NPCs in their exports, I would reconsider adding the data to this project.

I appreciate your understanding with this matter, and I hope that the project is helpful to you, regardless!

This is an excellent resource, especially for newer GMs. Hell, I've been running Lancer for just under a year and I'm still getting use out of this thing. The enemy paradigms are great not only because they're easy to just copy and paste into an encounter, but also because the tactical advice given for each one helps you see how NPC systems synergize with each other in a way that the core rulebook tends to lack.

I am immensely glad that this guide has proven so useful for your GMing! When I was writing it, it was a great excuse for me to get acquainted with the core NPCs and their inherent depth of customization. May it continue to serve you well or, even better, assist you in finding your own synergies!

I love the work you've done on this! Thank you so much!

Do you have any plans on doing this for the Wallflower NPCs as well in the future?

I'm glad it's been helpful! A Wallflower NPC version was originally low on my priority list, but I may reconsider it now that I've given the NPCs a good read. I'll write it down in my notes! ;)

That's great! I'll look forward to it then. What about the other NPC templates, such as Spacer, Pirate, Ship and/or Vehicle?

Well, I've been slowly compiling a list of templated NPCs that I hope to anchor in the lore of the baseline Lancer setting. I don't have a scheduled release for it, but I would like to create a guide/supplement like that in the future.

Well, if you ever need an extra pair of hands for that kind of work, then I'd be interested in providing assistance anytime.
